Although the Pepper Place is well known for it's diversity of shops, specialty services, and various venues for gathering and performance, "The Listening Room" is a special venue, created at the Pepper Place in 2010 for the direct purpose of making a viable music venue for the 30 year anniversary of the improvisor, and beyond. Featuring a large   hall featuring art, documentation, and a grand piano, it is an inviting venue & gathering spot and holds the "headquarters," workshop space, and documentary gallery  for the festival.

The Pepper Place complex is a group of seven buildings totaling more than 227,000 square feet. Formerly the Dr. Pepper Syrup Plant and the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, the buildings have been completely renovated and the complex is considered the design, furniture and arts related merchandise center of Birmingham. In addition to the numerous shops and businesses, The Pepper Place Saturday Market is held every Saturday, from the end of May until the first of October from 7am until 12 noon in the parking lot of Pepper Place, on 2nd Avenue South between 28th and 29th Streets. Experience Birmingham's freshest outdoor market, featuring farm-fresh vegetables, organic produce, fresh flowers, baked goods, and live cooking demonstrations by Birmingham's best chefs, and  hands-on workshops and concerts of improvisor festival!
